At Sheffield DocFest’s Alternate Realities Summit, I will explore the power of sound as a medium for reimagining the future of storytelling in Africa. Despite the rise of digital platforms, radio remains the most dominant mass medium across the continent, shaping narratives and connecting communities in profound ways.

Future Lab Africa is an auditory experiment that exists in the most intimate space—between your ears—offering sonic experiences that challenge how we think about the future. Through immersive soundscapes and deep storytelling, we’ll investigate how emerging and traditional technologies can intersect to create new modes of expression in nonfiction media.

This session invites practitioners, scholars, filmmakers, and curious minds to engage with the evolving role of sound, digital culture, and speculative storytelling in documenting and transforming reality.
